The Oracle Database Administrator is responsible for the support and maintenance of all Oracle database environments. This position will be primarily responsible for production database support including performance monitoring, troubleshooting, maintenance and other production DBA type duties.

Essential Functions / Responsibilities:

  • Monitor and maintain stability in production environment.
  • Troubleshoot problems and work effectively with others to identify and address the problems.
  • Install and configure software for development, test and production servers.
  • Create scripts for database monitoring and to automate routine tasks.
  • Perform database space management and capacity planning.
  • Research, test and coordinate Oracle patches/upgrade.
  • Performs database re-organizations as required to assist performance and ensure uptime to the database.
  • Establish and maintain sound backup and recovery policies and procedures.
  • Provide technical support to the application development team.
  • Assist developers in writing and tuning queries.
  • Assist with impact analysis of any changes made to the database for maintenance patches and releases.
  • The DBA must be able to accommodate 24/7 support and being on call.

Qualifications:

  • 3-5 years Oracle production DBA with experience in 9i or 10g on UNIX
  • Experience using Oracle Enterprise Manager and other database monitoring tools.
  • Basic System Administration skills using Shell Scripting to automate database functions.
  • The ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic team environment.
  • Self motivated team player with ability to work effectively and cooperatively with project and infrastructure teams.
  • Thorough understanding of OLTP systems.
  • Strong analysis and problem solving skills.
  • Strong ability to work in a team as well as on your own.
  • Solid level of experience in UNIX
  • Candidates should be comfortable interacting with members of management, the technology groups and business units.
  • Have good knowledge of how oracle acquires and manages resources.
  • Oracle 10g experience
  • RAC experience (Real Application Clusters)
  • Back-up and Recovery using RMAN
  • Data Warehouse experience a plus.
  • Experience with Oracle High Availability solutions a plus.
  • BA Degree in a related field
